On 25th June, Keyforge Network published an interview with a member of staff from Asmodee Italia concerning the state of KeyForge and its future. (The full interview, conducted entirely in Italian, can be accessed on Spotify.) A huge amount of important information was released which may not have made its way through the international community - so, here is an English summary of this exciting information!
SET 6 READY TO GO!
The next set of KeyForge has a tentative release date of October, and should be published by the end of 2021. There will be “a significant return of a house, and at least one new interesting house drawing from East Asian influences and trade being an important part of it.” A new house being introduced is huge news (we speculate that they will be The Skyborn, or The Inspired), and means the rotation of at least one house in the set, if not two. Could this be the return of Brobnar, or of Mars?
Either way, it’s speculated that the set will be officially announced in September, in the FFG In-Flight Report during Gen Con Online. We can’t wait to hear more!
ORGANISED PLAY TO RETURN IN 2022
There are plans for all Organised Play to return to normal in 2022 - including the VaultWarrior series of events, which were first announced by FFG in 2019. This is the first semi-official mention of VaultWarrior in some time, and fans will be extremely relieved to hear that it is still planned. Keep an eye out for announcements of Store, Prime and Grand Championships, alongside Vault Tours and VaultWarrior events in 2022!
Store Leaderboards will be continued, once the logistics issues surrounding the deck manufacturing and shipping have been resolved.
In the meantime, local distributors like Asmodee Italia and Asmodee France are supporting various initiatives, such as Keyforge Network in Italy, and the Championnat de France in November. Community organisers in other countries should take note here and consider approaching their local Asmodee branches for potential event support!
THANKS TO THE COMMUNITY ORGANISERS
The Asmodee Italia staff member praised Keyforge Network, an Italian online series of events which they support officially and “are grateful to for keeping the community going during the pandemic.” With all the effort that has been put in by the international community over the past 18 months to maintain the global KeyForge community, it’s awesome to hear praise from an official source!
OFFICIAL ONLINE PLAY STILL UNCERTAIN
Although real talks were being conducted within FFG concerning official online play prior to the pandemic, the interviewee wasn’t aware of any further movement on a dedicated official platform. “Who knows,” they said. “Maybe they [FFG] will surprise us.” Due to the complexity of interactions in KeyForge, an official implementation is a “big technical challenge,” but an online platform is still being actively requested by Asmodee Italia and is still on the table for the future.
MASS MUTATION STOCK ISSUES
Due to the fears of the pandemic, orders placed for Mass Mutation were lower than previous sets. As a result, Mass Mutation has sold out entirely in the Italian language. The number of decks sold was close to the sales figures for Worlds Collide, so it performed extremely well despite their fears. Asmodee Italia confirmed that sets are printed in a single run, and won’t be reprinted (the exception to this being the initial Call of the Archons print run). They are pleased with the community reception of Mass Mutation despite their overly conservative print run.
FUTURE OF KEYFORGE SECURE
The staff member from Asmodee Italia assured the podcast hosts that things are moving forward, and said they had peace of mind regarding the future of the game.
This is all fantastic news - there’s still lots to look forward to in the world of The Crucible! I’m excited for the next few months for the official OP and Set 6 announcements, and to play more of the game we love!
Original Podcast hosted by Keyforge Network - so many thanks to this lot for having the initiative to reach out to and interview a member of staff from Asmodee Italia and get these scoops!
